A Birds-Eye View on CIPD 2015: The future of HR Really is Bright

Over the last few years changes in technology have really shaped how we deliver HR and engage with our people in business.

The CIPD conference and exhibition 2015 has showcased some brilliant new innovations. There was lots of information about big developments in HR as organisations enter a new age of digital advances, learning to adapt to changes in technology and people management solutions. One stand immediately caught my eye at the exhibition; well you could hardly miss it really, shining through the crowd like a star.

BrightHR, took pride of place, strategically situated near the delegate refreshment area, with its futuristic, slick looking stand.

So what did the BrightHR stand have to offer the 2015 HR Manager?

Well it has launched a market changing new tool that provides organisations with a portal for all their HR requirements in an easy to use, interactive, community style IT solution. The vibrant stand was overflowing with the BrightHR team all eager to demonstrate this fantastic new product. I was particularly drawn in by a virtual reality game that someone was using, which I thought was so apt following Back to the Future day.

I spoke to a guy called Andy who talked me through the system. I loved the look of the software which provides your business with all employee details in one easy online secure tool. It also boasts an easy to use online platform for managers to authorise people's holidays, record sickness absence as well as track lateness. The thing that really appealed to me was the functionality to be able to run reports at the push of a button, which will be great for demonstrating HR metrics in your business. 

For those tech thirsty people on the move it even syncs with your smartphones and devices via a handy app. So basically everything HR you and your people will ever need as a business in the palm of your hand. All employees within your company can have their own unique log-in to the system, and they can personalise their portal with a favourite colour and mood, yes mood with what BrightHR call a 'Moodle'!

For those of you freaked out by technology, don't worry it is so easy to use, even I can figure it out and that is saying something...

The stand was a credit to the BrightHR team who were able to answer all questions about the product, whilst having live demos on hand. They chose a brave strategy launching the product live at the exhibition, but I am sure it will pay off for them. I'm glad it wasn't me as I don't mix well with IT at all.

So what about the virtual reality game...?

If you are miserable in work, then your performance will be miserable, and this will impact on the team and your organisations productivity. The idea of the game was to demonstrate the importance of having fun in the workplace. I attended the keynote speech at the conference delivered by Professor Sir Cary Cooper who emphasised the link between happy people and performance, referring to an insightful report researched by BrightHR called 'It Pays to Play'.

In summary BrightHR offer industry leading research into organisational culture and performance as well as a new fresh HR tool that is absolutely cool. This really is the start of something big in HR and I'm proud to say it's based in Manchester, my home and the capital of the Northern Powerhouse.
