Development Lead

Job Purpose

To drive agile delivery management practice across the portfolio of projects in the team, supporting hands on development where necessary. Working closely with stakeholders to manage ADRID logs, improving predictability where necessary.

The main deliverables of the role will be working alongside of the marketing team and reporting into the Chief Growth Officer, you’ll be responsible for

  • technical SEO roadmap driving best in class core vitals, AI search ranking and improved search ranking across Google/Bing support sales lead growth

  • technical CRO roadmap driving best in class site conversion to deliver sales leads targets

  • technical delivery of Exchange, BHR closed group marketplace, driving growth in product engagement, returning visitors and revenue in affiliate sales

Dimensions

Responsibility for the delivery practice and technical governance of a segment of our portfolio of products, a budget of around £500K annually.

BrightHR operates cross functional delivery teams strongly embracing agile principles of delivery to manage expectations on delivery scope and schedule. A successful commercial organisation with an international presence and digital penetration is 5 countries. Currently operating from our HQ in Manchester with the business units co-located with the delivery team working in a highly collaborative user centric product delivery fashion.

Accountability

  • Actively engage with and manage external dependencies, whether partners, suppliers or other businesses in the group in order to manage external dependencies and avoid impacts from external dependencies.

  • Set and manage expectations of a wide and demanding stakeholder set on product delivery including scope, schedule and return on investment.

  • Continual calibration of velocity and communication of impact on schedule in order to continually improve predictability.

  • Drive relative sizing and calibration to establish uncalibrated schedule.

  • Ensure that epics are elaborated sufficiently to relatively size.

  • Inspect and adapt regularly in order to tune metrics and stability.

  • Understand drivers and current metrics to allow management of schedule expectations by either scope, capacity or schedule.

  • Assumptions, Decisions, Risks, Issues, and Dependencies are actively managed to successful mitigation by managing the actively required.

  • Set teams expectations about why we follow HR best practice as we consult our clients to do.

  • Hire people that are aligned with the business values.

  • Ensure that team members attend the office in line with contractual requirements and business needs.

  • Ensure that team members follow guidance set out in our ways of working document about dress code and flexitime.

  • Make realistic commitments with the Add team that you are confident of meeting and strive to do so.

  • Maintain and improve engineering practice.

  • Maintain and improve software quality for features built (TDD, Pairing, Peer Review, Static Analysis)

  • Support the product owner in the provision of estimates that are at an appropriate level of fidelity for the phase in the development lifecycle.

  • Support the QA in identifying describing and resolving defects.

  • • Support the BA in the elaboration of requirements.

  • You take responsibility for the entire lifecycle of delivery from idea, marketing, sales and operation

  • Manage your teams training requirements

Skills

  • Thorough understanding of agile framework and techniques for managing delivery

  • Able to drive a team to create relative sized backlogs with initial estimate of velocity

  • Understanding of AI products and tools and advancement in AI search to support the technical SEO deliverables

  • Able to calibrate a team’s velocity against an initial prediction and manage the impact

  • Ensure that the initiative has a coherent Definition of Done and that your features are met

  • Able to communicate a complicated problem succinctly accurately and coherently to a team with different skill sets

  • Exhibit cross functional behaviour and support other competencies within the company

  • Able to negotiate and compromise solutions and find the balance between best practice, expediency and longer-term maintenance costs

  • Demonstrate, discuss and permeate current good practice in the skills specific to your professional family across other members of your professional family

  • Propose new technology, process or tooling to improve efficiency being aware of the future maintenance costs and consistency across other product teams
