BrightSafe / Method Statements

Anyone with admin or user access on Brightsafe will be able to add and access method statements as well as start a review for the statement.
It's quick and easy to complete a review for your method statements. First of all, head over to the tasks section on your account.
From here, you should be able to locate the review as an outstanding task. Once you have located the review for the correct method statement and click on it. From here you will see the option to 'start your review'
Now you can review all the information on the method statement, add or edit where required and also add any related documents.
It's super easy and quick to set up a method statement on Brightsafe. Firstly, let's head to the risk management section and head into method statements.
Head to the risk management section of your account and select method statements. Here, click the 'Add a new statement' button to get started.
Step 1 In this first section, you'll need to enter some basic details for the method statements you're creating including;
- A title for your method statement.
- The date it was prepared on.
- What activities are involved in the method statement.
- Which organisation and site the method statement was conducted at.
- The exact room, area or workspace for the method statement.
- You can also choose to add in a reference for the method statement.
Once filled in just click 'Save and Continue' to move on to the next step.
Step 2 In the next section, you'll need to enter some details of the people involved in the method statement including;
- Who has prepared the method statement.
- Their job title (if needed).
- Details of the Project/Works manager.
- And who the people at risk are.
Once filled in, again just click 'Save and Continue' to move on to the next step.
Step 3 In this step, you'll need to select what potential hazards are involved in this method statement. Once selected, click 'Save and Continue' to move on to the next step.
Step 4 Now that you've added the hazards included in the method statement, we now need to select what protective personal equipment (PPE) is required.
If the PPE required is not a default option, you can use the add option tool below to add your own.
Once all your required PPE is added, click 'Save and continue' to move on to the next step.
Step 5 In the next step, we need to identify and record the hazards and risks as well as the equipment and control measures required for each step of the activity. The specifics that we need to include are; * The step title (describing the activity). * Details of the potential hazard. * The risks presented from the hazard. * The control measures required.
You can add as many steps as you need to identify all hazards, risks and control measures required.
Step 6 In this last step, you'll need to fill in some details on when this method statement is due to be reviewed including; * The date of the review * Who will be assigned to conduct the review * We'll automatically create a task for the reviewer so that they know when this is due.
Once completed just click 'Save and complete' to complete and save your method statement.
A method statement must be prepared for all high-risk construction activities in consultation with workers and it must take into account all site-specific hazards and risks.
Work must proceed in accordance with the method statement to safely carry out all related tasks and actions.
Yes, when you leave an incomplete method statement we save a copy as a draft for you in the method statement section of your account.
When you then go back into this, you can click ‘continue this draft’ to continue the process.
Yes,just head to the Risk Management section of your account and select Method Statements. In here you'll have a Library tab at the top, click on this and you'll find a whole host of handy templates that you can use to create your method statement.
Find the template you'd like to use and click on the name to view the details of it. You'll then have a Copy button at the top to start creating your method statement with this template.
Yes you can! after creating your method statement, you will be able to access a tab called 'Acceptance' This will then give you the ability to add your staff to require a read and acceptance when they view the method statement - they will need to read through the information and activities before they can accept the method statement assuring that they have gone through it.
Simple! click in to the method statement you want to check this for and head in to the 'Acceptances' tab. From here, you staff will be split in to two sections, Accepted and Pending. Simply access each tab to see who has accepted it or still needs to.
You can also invite new employees to accept the method statement by selecting them using the 'Add employees' button.
