All About Notifications & Who Receives Them On BrightHR For Employees
In this guide, we will teach you all about notifications, when they're received and what for.
Profile Notifications
Notifications from your profile will be from changes your employer has made.
General Notifications
Working pattern updated
This refers to your working hours and pattern of work and will affect how your absences are booked and leave calculated.
- An email & push notification is sent when the change is made only.

Work anniversary
At BrightHR, we like to celebrate success! So we let you know when you reach your yearly anniversary milestone.
- An email notification is sent.
- A notification will be sent 7 days before the anniversary.
- Your manager and admins will also receive the notifications to remind them of your anniversary.

Personal Details
Bank details
Bank details can only be updated by your employer, but we will give you a heads up once done!
- Email notification and push notification received.
- Received immediately when updated or added.

Document Notifications
Notifications are received in relation to documents that have specific actions required as well as when the document is uploaded, if the option to notify has been selected.
Notify of upload
If selected by your employer, you will be notified when a document has been uploaded in to your personal folder or in the company documents folder.
- A notification email as well as a notification through BrightHR and the app is received immediately when the document is uploaded either in your personal folder, or in the company folder.

Read receipts & acceptance
When your employer uploads a document, they can choose to set something called a read receipt and acceptance. this just records when you have read the document and also allows you to accept the contents.
When this has been set, you will be given a notification to let you know it is due.
- A notification email as well as a notification through BrightHR and the app is received immediately when the document is uploaded with a request for read & acceptance.

Document follow-up expiry
When uploading a document, one of the options you can add is a follow-up date which will send notifications based on this.
- A notification is sent by email and a notification on BrightHR as well as the app.
- Notification received 7 days before expiry.
- Notification received on the day of expiry.
- Notification when overdue every 7 days on daily notifications.

Schedule Notifications
Notifications for schedules will not only inform the employee of assigned shifts or shift changes, it can also serve to notify the creator of the schedule if an open shift is accepted for example.
When a shift is assigned, amended, or deleted
Whenever a change is made to a shift you're assigned to, you will receive a notification. This only applies to schedules that have been published.
- Push notification only.
- Sent immediately when change made to a published schedule.

When the schedule is created, amended or deleted
After being assigned to a schedule, a notification is sent as well as any changes to the schedule too.
- Push notification only.
- Sent immediately when change made to a published schedule or if deleted.

When an open shift is offered to you / edited / deleted
If your employer adds open shifts to a schedule, you will be notified to make you aware it is available to you.
As well as this, you will be notified of any changes to the shift and also if it is removed.
- A push notification is sent on the website and through the app.

Absence Notifications
Most likely the most common notification type you will see are for absences. Let's explore what you will get notifications for.
Mandatory Leave added / deleted / unassigned
Mandatory absences can be assigned by the system admin and will generally be absences during a shutdown period.
These absences can be set to deduct or not deduct from your vacation.

Medical note request
When you're off sick and your employer requires a medical note from you to certify your return to work, they may request this through BrightHR.
- Push notification received via BrightHR only.
- Notification only sent once, immediately when requested.

Absence approved / declined / updated
Whenever you request an absence, you will receive updates when anything happens with it.
- A notification email and push notification will be sent once when approved or declined.
- A notification email and push notification will be sent once when updated by your manager or admin.

Overtime
When overtime is logged, this would go to your manager for approval. When overtime is logged by your manager, this will automatically approve.
Notifications are received when: * Overtime is approved as TOIL or Payable. * Payable overtime has been marked as paid. * Overtime has been logged. * Notifications are sent as push notifications and via email.

Learning Management Notifications
Next, let's take a look at the notifications you will receive when E-Learning is assigned to you.
E-Learning course assigned
When a course is assigned, BrightHR notifies you to let you know it has been assigned and is due for completion.
- A notification email is sent when an E-Learning course is assigned to you.

Reminder when due dates are outstanding
To keep on top of your assigned courses, you will receive a notification when they're due to be completed so you don't miss the deadline.
- An email is sent at the start of the week (Monday) when the course is due to be completed.

Performance Management Notifications
Let's take a look at performance related tasks when assigned, updated and completed.
Goal created / completed
When a goal is created or completed, you will be notified of the new goal and when it has been completed.
- Push notification is sent immediately.
- Email notification is sent immediately.

Performance reviews
When your manager or admin creates and assigns any kind of performance review, you will be notified at several stages.
- A push notification is sent when the review cycle is created.
- An email notification is sent when the review cycle is created.
- A push notification is sent when the review has been completed.
- An email containing a download link for a PDF copy of the review is sent when the review has been completed (you can print and sign this).
