Carers Leave Policy - April 2024
This document has been updated to reflect changes in legislation introduced on 6 April 2024.
In line with current UK law, employees are entitled to one week (five days) of unpaid carer’s leave per year to support a dependent with long-term care needs.
Inform employees of their rights when taking carer's leave
Carer’s leave is intended for planned care or arranging care for a dependant. It is a statutory day one right and should therefore be outlined within an HR policy. With this policy sample you can ensure your carer's leave policy covers all the essential information. From eligibility criteria to entitlements and notcie requirements.
Outline processes and streamline leave management with a clear policy
Having a carer's policy in place is highly recommended as it clears any confusion amongst staff and promotes best practices for making and handling leave requests.
