You told us that you have a hard time keeping track of TOIL—making notes on scraps of paper and updating spreadsheets just aren’t cutting it. So we decided to fix this for you.

Our new feature in BrightHR allows you to enter your staff’s extra hours and get an automatic TOIL calculation. Plus, it lets your staff officially take the TOIL that they’ve earned.

Sounds good, right? Here’s how to manage your team’s TOIL using BrightHR.

Step 1

Now you’re ready to get started. Log your employee’s extra hours by heading to their employee profile and selecting the ‘TOIL’ tab. Then click the ‘Log TOIL earned’ button.

Step 2

Select the date and hours that your employee worked extra. BrightHR will then automatically calculate the amount of TOIL your employee has earned. To save, click ‘Log TOIL earned’.

You’ll then see a summary screen which lets you know that you’ve successfully logged your employee’s TOIL.

Step 3

You can book TOIL for an employee in the same way as you log their absence.

Head to their employee profile and click the ‘Take TOIL as absence’ button on the TOIL tab. You’ll then see this screen:

Fill out the date your employee wants to take TOIL and the hours they’ll be off for. Click ‘Apply’ and instantly see a calculation of the amount of TOIL taken.

Review the details and then click the ‘Add time off’ button. See the summary screen and be confident that you’ve added your employee’s absence.

Before you go…

Of course, your team can take time off first and work it back later. Simply reverse the order above. It’s that easy.

Finally, this is the first stage of our TOIL launch. When we release the second version (jam-packed with even more great features) in a matter of weeks, you’ll be the first to know.
